⚠ WORKING DRAFT — NOT LAWYER-REVIEWED
Dated 2026-04-23. This document is a starting skeleton for legal review, not a binding contract. Placeholders marked [TODO: ...] must be completed before alpha public launch.
Terms of Service
Effective date: 2026-04-23. Last updated: 2026-04-23.
1. Acceptance of terms
By accessing or using Wayfindr (the "Service"), you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service. If you do not agree, do not use the Service. These terms apply to all visitors, registered users, and testers.
2. Service description
Wayfindr is a web application that uses AI to suggest outdoor routes for walking, running, and cycling in Great Britain. The Service plans routes in response to natural-language prompts, lets you save routes, navigate them using live GPS, and export them as GPX files for third-party devices.
3. Alpha / beta status and safety disclaimer
Wayfindr is currently in alpha / beta. Routes are generated by AI models and third-party routing services. They may be inaccurate, incomplete, or unsafe. Paths may not exist on the ground, may be blocked, flooded, overgrown, or on private land. Surfaces, gradients, and distances may be wrong.
You use the Service at your own risk. You are responsible for your own safety. Always carry an appropriate paper map and compass, check the weather, tell someone where you are going, and do not rely on Wayfindr as your only means of navigation.
4. User conduct
You agree not to:
- Use the Service unlawfully or to harm others.
- Submit prompts that are abusive, defamatory, or that attempt to extract personal data about other users.
- Reverse-engineer, scrape, or systematically download routes or audit data.
- Interfere with the Service, its infrastructure, or its third-party providers.
- Share your account credentials or access another user's account without permission.
5. Intellectual property
Wayfindr content
The Service, its code, branding, and name are owned by [TODO: entity name] and protected by UK and international intellectual property law.
Route output
Routes generated for you are provided for your personal, non-commercial use. Underlying map data, tiles, and routing results remain subject to the licences of their upstream providers (see the Privacy Policy for the current list).
User content
You retain ownership of the prompts and saved-route metadata you submit. You grant us a worldwide, royalty-free licence to process that content solely to operate, secure, and improve the Service.
Trademarks
"Wayfindr" and the Wayfindr logo are trademarks of [TODO: entity name]. Other marks belong to their respective owners.
6. No warranty
The Service is provided "as is" and "as available". To the fullest extent permitted by law, we disclaim all warranties, express or implied, including warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy, and non-infringement.
We do not warrant that routes are safe, legal, passable, or correctly described. We do not warrant that map data, path data, or AI outputs are accurate or complete. We do not warrant that the Service will be uninterrupted or error-free.
7. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, we are not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for loss of profits, data, goodwill, or injury arising from your use of the Service.
Our total aggregate liability to you for any claim arising out of or relating to the Service is capped at [TODO: liability cap £___].
Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot lawfully be limited, including liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or for fraud.
8. Indemnification
You agree to indemnify and hold harmless [TODO: entity name], its officers, and contractors from any claim, loss, or expense (including reasonable legal fees) arising out of your breach of these terms, your misuse of the Service, or your violation of any law or third-party right.
9. Termination
We may suspend or terminate your access to the Service at any time, with or without notice, if we reasonably believe you have breached these terms or if we discontinue the Service. You may stop using the Service and request deletion of your account at any time (see the Privacy Policy).
Sections that by their nature should survive (intellectual property, no warranty, limitation of liability, indemnification, governing law) will survive termination.
10. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of [TODO: jurisdiction — England & Wales assumed], and the courts of that jurisdiction have exclusive jurisdiction over any dispute, subject to any mandatory consumer-protection rights you may have where you live.
11. Changes to terms
We may update these terms from time to time. Material changes will be announced in the Service or by email. Continued use after a change means you accept the updated terms.
12. Contact
Questions about these terms: [TODO: contact email].
